Our Midwives
Sara Povey
RM BMW (Honours)
Sara has been a registered midwife in BC since 2009. She trained in 1998 and worked in the UK prior to returning home to Canada. Throughout England and Wales she practiced as a midwife in hospitals, community clinics and a birth centre.
Sara is the eldest of four siblings and remembers her mother as always being either pregnant or breastfeeding during her childhood so she naturally chose to become a midwife. Sara likes to travel, go on bike rides, and spend time with her son. Her most recent enterprise is learning acupuncture for pain relief in labour. She uses acupressure points for various pregnancy and birth related issues to comfort and benefit their clients.
Lori Miller
RN RM DNP
Lori has a long history in BC healthcare. First as a Registered Nurse since 1983, she worked with families and children at BC Children's Hospital and taught nursing students. In 2007, she became a Registered Midwife and worked with families in Richmond Hospital.
A life long learner, Lori is always looking for ways to improve practice and meet the needs of clients. In 2014, she completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree which focused on improving the diagnosis of labour and supporting women in early labour. In 2015, she was the first midwife asked to participate in the Physician Leadership Program through the UBC Sauder School of Business.
She has two adult sons who are the light of her life. She loves travelling, shoes, watching home improvement shows, animals, and caring for her clients. She can’t wait to be a grandmother herself.
